SANTA MARIA, CA – (BUSINESS WIRE)—Space Information Laboratories (SIL) (http://www.spaceinformationlabs.com/ ), is a leading provider of high-end Li-Ion Polymer Batteries, GPS metric tracking and autonomous flight termination systems, avionics, and system engineering solutions to DOD programs of national significance. SIL successfully Range Safety Space Qualified Li-Ion Polymer Intelli-Pack® battery technology in 2013, and the new battery technology flew successfully on Lockheed Martin MDA missile and reentry vehicle missions in 2013 to 2015. The new battery technology was also selected by L3-Coleman Aerospace to power avionics/telemetry systems for their MDA missiles. USAF SBIR Phase I award for EELV Li-Ion FTS and Upper Stage Batteries will allow SIL to develop greatly reduced size/weight FTS and Upper Stage battery compared to older Ni-Cad and Silver Zinc battery technologies currently flown on DOD, NASA and Commercial launch vehicles.

“SIL’s Li-Polymer Intelli-Pack® game changing smart battery technology provides significantly higher energy density (200Wh/Kg), reliability and operational capability for rockets, missiles and small satellites, and significant volume and weight savings by 1/3 to 1/2 compared to Ni-Cad and Silver Zinc older battery technologies.”

The design, manufacturing and Space qualification is performed on site at Space Information Laboratories, Santa Maria, CA. The USAF SBIR Phase I contract will allow us to develop a Li-Ion Polymer FTS and Upper Stage battery for USAF EELV program, and other DOD, NASA and commercial rocket and missile customers. “We are extremely proud to be the first company to Range Safety Space Qualify Li-Ion Polymer battery technology and fly it successfully in the Aerospace industry. The Li-Ion Polymer Intelli-Pack® battery will save significant space and weight thus enabling more capability for the payload to enhance the DOD launch vehicle and missile mission,” said Edmund Burke, SIL CEO.
