Space Information Laboratories’ (SIL) patented Vehicle Based Independent Tracking System (VBITS) satellite technology was featured in the Santa Maria Times in February 2012.
At about 8 inches by 8 inches by 6 inches, VBITS weighs approximately 10 pounds and is flexible and configurable to meets the needs of different aerospace missions. VBITS is more economical and reliable to keep an eye on just-launched rockets and missiles, which need continuous location data for safety.
VBITS is changing the way Atlas 5 and Delta 4 boosters are tracked upon liftoff by allowing crews to track their location using GPS satellite technology instead of old-fashioned radar.
