SIL selected for Phase I & II Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) contracts from the United States Air Force (USAF) to develop a 8S1P @ 2Ah Flight Termination System (FTS) Li-Ion battery, a 8S1P @ 5Ah Extended FTS & Pyro Li-Ion battery, and an Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV) Primary Orbital 8S1P @ 150Ah Li-Ion Battery. These advanced batteries are designed to support a variety of USAF, Department of Defense (DoD), and private aerospace systems including launch vehicles, missiles, re-entry vehicles, strike weapons and hypersonic vehicles
SIL’s Intelli-Pack® battery technologies are innovative, reduced Size, Weight, Power, and Cost (SWAP-C) solutions. Each solution is extremely capable with high constant discharge (up to 150A), high pulsed discharge (up to 250A), and quick recharge rates (less than 1 hour). All batteries were designed for and tested in extreme aerospace environments including thermal cycle and vacuum, shock, vibration, acceleration, ESD, and EMI/EMC.
Each battery includes SIL’s internal Battery Management System (BMS). The BMS features Discharge Protection Override (DPO), cell protection (overvoltage, undervoltage, short circuit, and temperature), cell balancing, monitoring (individual cell voltage, battery voltage, current, temperatures), state of charge (SOC), and a non-volatile black box memory that retains critical min/max values and pertinent system data. SIL’s Windows® graphical user interface (GUI) software is used to monitor and log these advanced BMS functions in real time via the battery’s RS-422 telemetry stream
